We as an organisation work for betterment of women in all spheres. We assist them in seeking justice by providing them legal assistance and counselling.

These days women are not even safe at home. There are many reasons which make them feel uncomfortable. Women harassment means when a person of opposite or same gender behaves in a way which makes her feel uncomfortable, humiliated or distressed. Women these days are more independent, educated but the level of harassment is increasing day by day

Infact the cases of women harassment are everywhere, be it a workplace, home, online , society etc. the harassment, humiliation and the atrocities committed on her can be psychological, physical, emotional, personal harassment, discriminatory harassment, psychological harassment, cyberbullying, sexual harassment and 3rd party harassment.

Women face harassment at every stage of their life. At a young age, due to the lack of knowledge regarding good or bad touch, they become victims of their own family members; In teenage, they face humiliations for their looks and appearance, a woman suffers in the workplace as well; during their lifetime some women may face abuse by the their husband, some become victim of cyberbullying and stalking, etc.

We as a SOCIAL ORGANISATION SNEHPREET is a socio – legal organisation that help women in various ways:

  • We fight cases in the court of law to help destitute women
  • We help them in filing DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CASES
  • We help them in filingcomplainats against DOWRY under DOWRY PROHIBITION ACT AND RELEVENT PROVISIONS OF INDIAN PENAL CODE.
  • We counsel these helpless, deserted, exploited ladies against the atrocities committed on them.
  • We help them in getting FIR registered against the accused persons.

Also some of the laws in Indian judiciary system for the protection of women are

  • For the protection of women from harassment at workplace, Indian Parliament in 2013 passed the Harassment of women at workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, commonly known as POSH Act.
  • Sec 354 IPC states that if a person assaults or uses criminal force against any women with intention to outrage her modesty, he shall be punished with imprisonment upto 2 years or with fine or both.
  • Any person who throws or tries to throw acid with intention to burn or disfigure the face, then the person will be governed under Sec-326A IPC and shall be punished with the imprisonment of minimum 10 years.
  • Sec- 304 B IPC governs the people who are accused of dowry death.
  • Under Sec-366 IPC, a person cannot compel a woman to marry him or to make a sexual relation with him without her consent.
  • If a person does any obscene act in public, then he shall be punished with an imprisonment upto 3 months under Sec- 294 IPC.

Case laws:

  • SAKSHI vs UOI and ors. (2004)

SAKSHI is an NGO which provides Legal Aid to women who are victim of abuse or violence, in this case a writ was filed under Art-32 through PIL to reconsider the meaning of ‘rape’ under sec 375 of IPC and they argued that the word ‘penetration’ should also include penile/anal, penile/oral and finger/vaginal penetration alongwith penile/vaginal penetration.
The petition also included fundamental rights under Part-III of Indian constitution and international conventions.

Also known as Nirbhaya case
After Nirbhaya case, Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013 took place which made new tougher anti-rape law with more strict punishment (which also includes death for repeat rape offenders) and the word ‘rape’ was also redefined.

In this case, a women’s rights organization, “Vishaka” filed a PIL regarding the enforcement of fundamental rights at workplace under the provisions of Art- 14, 15, 19 and 21 of the Indian constitution and to protect the women from sexual harassment at workplace.

Since now there is awareness amongst women and now they are raising their voice against every wrong which has happened or which is happening against them, so ‘We’ the team of “MAHILA MANDAL SNEHPREET” is being a part of women empowerment. WE deal with the crimes committed against women which includes domestic violence, rape, cruelty, also the cases of divorce on the basis of crulety by husband or in-laws, dowry-death cases, maintenance cases, etc. We also provide counselling to women clients to motivate them to take a crucial step for the better future for themselves. The condition of a woman in our society cannot be changed immediately but together, slowly and steadily, we can create a change in our society and we can also try to change the mentality of people living in it, so next time, no woman should face such humiliation and should not be afraid to fight for her own rights.
